“Best Practices”

Very interesting article that I suggest you all take a few minutes to read. It was definitely an eye opener to me. When you look at the statistics that were found on how much time was spend on informational text, and how many resources were available in classrooms it is so scary.

It also opened my mind to really thinking about what we are asking students to do. We ask them to learn to read and to perform on tests however we have not really taught them to understand and comprehend what they have read. Tang gives great ideas on how to approach problem solving with students and how to set them up for success.

I love the approach of attacking all subjects at once. Why not read a poem to solve a math problem?

Tang sets out 4 goals for students to problem solve that really make so much sense.

I will definitely be sharing this article with my teammates and then grabbing some of his great books!
